I am SO excited for these ...
A lot of you know I spent the last year and a half being supervised by Alex Vaz, who is a therapist based out of Lisbon, Portugal. I stumbled upon him after my wonderful bosses at the time brought him in for a group training on Deliberate Practice.
I’m not exaggerating when I say Alex is the most talented therapist and teacher I’ve ever experienced. I don’t think I’ve experienced learning in a way that was this supportive and helpful, I didn’t even know someone could teach like this. I found him at a time when I also needed some EFT rehab. I had gotten to a place where I was afraid of being clear and direct with clients, or reflecting their true reality when it wasn’t heart and flowers attachment language. He helped me so much with conceptualizing my toughest clients, and seeing a lot more clearly what was going on, both in their relationship and in session with me. I know I’m sounding very exaggerate-y right now, but I mean it when I say that while I’ve worked with so many talented supervisors and trainers, Alex will likely be the most impactful supervisor of my entire career.
After his last year teaching at some fancy university in Lisbon, undergrad interest in pursuing advanced degrees in psychotherapy increased by 42%. 42%. So it’s not just me who has this reaction to him.
And, he doesn’t supervise anymore, because he’s super busy writing books and launching all sorts of things Deliberate Practice.
*And can I mention that he looks like he’s 28 years old? I’ve never had the guts to ask how old he is, but he is like young-young. In sessions I would think, “how on EARTH are you this good at this age??”
Everyone is a baby unless they’re my age
Ok, enough of my gushing. The exciting news is that Alex is coming out of his book cave to co-teach a few masterclasses in Deliberate Practice with some other superstars in the field. We’ve got CBT, EFT, Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and more.
Because he’s so busy writing and creating the next generation of psychotherapy teachers, he doesn’t have time to supervise anymore. I hate this I am, of course, supportive of his needs. But that means that if you have the chance to work with him even just a little, SNAP THAT UP. Also, these courses are only $50. $50!!!!!!

In other good news, my friend Jordan Harris is doing a training in May: Masterclass for Allies, Attuning to African Americans. Jordan is the best. He’s trained in EFT, he does Deliberate Practice, and he’s a very kind and chill guy. I’ve been looking for good multicultural trainings, and it’s been tough to know what is a good investment. I’m sure all trainings will help me think better about working with African American clients, but I want a training that will actually help me do better and speak more fluently in session with my clients. I’m awkward as heck when I’m trying to reflect or ask questions about a client’s experience with race, and no matter how many books I read, or talks I hear, I still sound and feel really nervous. I trust 100% that with Jordan’s training I’m going to walk out of it feeling and sounding less awkward. Ooo, as I’m writing this I’m thinking what I could also use is a monthly Deliberate Practice hour specifically in practicing multicultural skills … maybe I can convince him to offer this after the training.
Anyway, this training is more expensive, but you know what? It’s worth it. Also it covers your ethics CEUs, so win-win.
I hope you’re all having a good spring, and taking good care of yourselves! Remember to do your breast exams lying down!
